Poetry has become an essential part of my life. I’ve found a place to express my hidden emotions. Some of my poetry no one will ever read, it’s more venting and healing than anything else. The rest I share on my blog or newsletter, and I’ll be releasing my first poetry book, “Just Her Poetry Seasons of a Soul” March 22nd.

While I’m writing a book, I channel my feelings into a poem or two. Here’s the poem I included in “The Button”:

UNWELCOME GUEST

I feel it when I’m uncomfortable.

It is always there, hiding, waiting.

That shallow breath,

that tight grip—that feeling.

It draws my attention

back to where it came from.

A time—

a time when I wasn’t so strong.

I was helpless.

I was young.

I’m none of those things now.

Yet it stays.

It’s an unwanted guest

that lurks in my body,

that has overstayed

its welcome.

It seems unaware

that it isn’t wanted anymore.

So I carefully guide it to the door,

fumbling with the lock.

It clings to the doorway,

hanging on to my past.

Smiling, I gently push it out.

We are both free as I release it.

D.L. Finn is an independent California local, who encourages everyone to embrace their inner child. She was born and raised in the foggy Bay Area, but in 1990 relocated with her husband, kids, dogs and cats to the Sierra foothills in Nevada City, CA. She immersed herself in reading all types of books, but especially loved romance, horror and fantasy. She always treasured creating her own reality on paper. Finally, being surrounded by towering pines, oaks and cedars, her creativity was cradled until it bloomed. Her creations vary from children’s books, young adult fantasy, adult paranormal romance to an autobiography with poetry. She continues on her adventure with an open invitation to her readers to join her.
